Making a full-size R2D2 is challenging, but it's been made easier by 3D printing and all the builders and designers that lead the way. Even so, there are still a lot of challenges to building something this big and complex, so it helps if you have an understanding of electronics and assembly techniques. This one is not for sale or rent, but I occasionally take it to conventions and charity events to entertain kids and adults alike. In addition to the lights and sounds, it has a working gripper arm (and door) and utility arms that move. For more information on how it's made, check out: How It's Made.
